Women Empowerment Project
29th September, 2017.
The NACOSA/IDRF project was launched on the 16th July, 2017 and classes commenced on the 17th July, at the D'Edward Masjid compound.
80 women were selected from the West Coast Berbice area and from low income families. Women with children and especially the single mothers were given preference at the selection interviews conducted.
Equipment and materials for both sewing and catering were purchased and set up at the project site. Project staff were interviewed and hired. Training for sewing is being held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and catering classes every Tuesday and Thursday. Business training began on the 24th August, 2017 with all the 80 participants every Wednesday. The first examination and display was held on Thursday 28th September, 2017.
I am very pleased and impressed with their progress and the tutors are doing an excellent job, working over time for those who need extra help.
Special thanks to Br Winston and the IDRF team for making this possible. One participant sought financial help to purchase a sewing machine and is already working and earning although she had no previous experience, Alhamdulilah.
Jazakallahu khairun. Thank you.
